After the great success of Mamma Mia! the movie in 2008 – originally a West End smash-hit musical based on the music of Swedish group ABBA, We Will Rock You looks set to follow in its footsteps by also becoming a movie. The musical conceived by comedian Ben Elton with collaborators Brian May and Roger Taylor, original members of the classic rock band Queen, is based around the songs of the legendary band, and continues to show successfully at London’s Dominion Theatre, where it has been for the past eight years.

Ben Elton has just completed the script for the movie, which is apparently based on the same storyline of the musical – set in the future where globalisation is complete and lead character Galileo tries to save everyone – yet a grittier spin on the storyline has been introduced, as Queen guitarist Brian May told the BBC last year. May also added,

“I’ve read the script and it’s like this (demonstrates) thick, ’cause Ben’s put every single detail in there, you know … All the camera angles, everything, you know, that’s happening. It’s astonishing”.

As of now, there are no further details surrounding the movie version of We Will Rock You, but with the roaring success of the film, Mamma Mia! – one of the most successful in British film history, and the highest-grossing musical of all time – We Will Rock You is sure to be a triumph.

We Will Rock You is currently showing at London’s Dominion Theatre and is taking bookings until 22nd October 2011. Stayed tuned to Theatres.TV for more information regarding this story.
